Africa Day Celebration – African Fashion and Art Exhibition

Posted on 24 May 2021

Yellow Door’s Diversity and Inclusion Advocacy service are really excited to be a part of this years celebration of Africa Day taking place at the John Hansard Gallery in Southampton.

There will be a range of different activities taking place to celebrate African culture, heritage and unity. In particular, the DIA team will be running a creative workshop with rocks with the aim to start a conversation around Africa Day and raise awareness of different topics around Southampton.  We’re hoping to get hashtags trending such as… #SAYNOTOFGM, #AFRICAROCKS, #AFRICANUNITY.

As well as this, we will be collaborating with the SAWA (Southampton African Women’s Alliance) group who will be showcasing African costumes to display the vibrancy of African clothing and fashion.  So much work has gone into the preparation of this day, with various organisations coming together – in a Covid secure way – to celebrate Africa Day in the best way!  Keep an eye out for the radio broadcast of the event with some interviews from people attending.

Please register for the event on Eventbrite here.
