Last year, Yellow Door and The STAR Project celebrated a very special milestone. As part of Yellow Door’s 40th birthday and The STAR Project’s 25th birthday celebrations, we launched a mascot competition and invited young people across Southampton to get creative and design a character that represented the values and spirit of our work.
The response was incredible, with more than 50 entries submitted by talented young people from schools across the city. Each design showcased creativity, imagination and a passion for helping others, making the judging process a difficult one.
The winning entry was chosen by one of Yellow Door’s therapeutic groups, who carefully reviewed all the submissions. Their favourite was FAB, a vibrant and imaginative character designed by a pupil from Banister Park Primary School. FAB stood out for its bright, welcoming appearance, warm personality and creative features, all of which perfectly reflected the supportive and empowering ethos of The STAR Project.

Now, one year on, we are excited to celebrate FAB’s first birthday by bringing the character to life. FAB has become a friendly ambassador for The STAR Project, helping us engage with young people in schools as we deliver sessions on healthy and unhealthy relationships, consent, boundaries and wellbeing.
FAB will also play an important role within Yellow Door’s wider services, supporting the young people we work with through therapeutic and advocacy support. By appearing across the organisation, FAB helps create a sense of consistency, familiarity and reassurance for children and young people accessing support.
As FAB begins this exciting new chapter, we look forward to seeing the positive impact our mascot can have in helping young people learn, grow and access support when they need it. Happy first birthday, FAB!
